## How it works

1. ### Find your ID in the comparison table

Check your ID's exact spec, its official source and the date we last checked it — including whether that ID takes an upload at all.
2. ### Pick the matching preset

Passport, PAN, voter ID and Aadhaar-style frames live on their own tool pages. Open the one that matches your form, or keep this general photo and signature crop.
3. ### Upload, crop and compress

Crop into the locked frame; the tool compresses the JPG under the KB limit your portal asks for.
4. ### Check and download

Confirm pixels, KB limit and a real JPG, then download the file and upload it on the official portal.

**Aadhaar card photo is captured live, not uploaded.** Passport Seva takes the 35 × 45 mm crop. Use the [passport size photo resizer](https://sarkaridoc.com/tools/passport-photo-resizer/).

## Questions

### Which Indian IDs take a photo you upload, and which capture it live?

Passport (Passport Seva's digital photo), PAN (the NSDL/Protean and UTIITSL uploads) and voter ID (the Form 6 photograph) take files you upload, each with its own official spec. Aadhaar does not — UIDAI treats the photograph as a biometric captured live at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra, so no online upload changes the photo on the card.

### Why do the KB limits differ from one ID to another?

Because each issuing authority writes its own upload rule — there is no single government photo spec. PAN portals publish hard limits (up to 50 KB on the NSDL/Protean eSign upload, under 30 KB for the UTIITSL photo), while Passport Seva and ECI publish no KB limit at all in their official wording, and Aadhaar has no upload. A site that shows one KB number for every ID is inventing at least some of them.

### What photo does the voter ID application (Form 6) need?

ECI's Form 6 guidelines ask for a recent good quality passport size unsigned colour photograph, 4.5 x 3.5 cm, with white background — eyes open and both edges of the face clearly visible. That is the whole official spec: ECI publishes no KB limit, pixel rule or file format for the online upload. Resizer sites claiming 50 KB, 10-100 KB or 2 MB contradict each other and cite no ECI source.

### Why is the photo on my voter ID card smaller than the one I uploaded?

The small photo printed on the EPIC card — 2.4 x 1.8 cm, around 320 x 240 pixels — is generated from ECI's own database, not from your uploaded file. It is a print spec, not an upload rule, so no resizer needs to target it. What you control is the Form 6 photograph: 4.5 x 3.5 cm, colour, white background.

### Is the 2 x 2 inch photo used for Indian IDs?

No. The 2 x 2 inch (51 x 51 mm) square photo is the US-visa/OCI consular spec. Indian IDs use their own frames: passport and the Aadhaar certificate proforma take the 3.5 x 4.5 cm passport-size shape, voter ID's Form 6 asks for 4.5 x 3.5 cm, and the PAN portals fix their own sizes — see the table above.

### Is my photo or signature uploaded to a server?

No. Your photo and signature stay in the browser on this page. Nothing is uploaded — and nothing goes to UIDAI, ECI or any portal either; you download the file and upload it yourself on the official site.

The voter-photo KB caps on other resizer sites (50 KB, 10-100 KB, 2 MB — mutually contradictory) have no official ECI source. The IBPS row comes from the exam's official notification via its SarkariDoc page.
