Is your EWS certificate valid for your exam?

EWS certificate is valid for one financial year and dies every 31 March, regardless of issue date. Enter your certificate's issue date and financial year, plus your exam's document verification date — the DoPT financial-year rule (OM 36039/1/2019) returns the verdict: likely valid, wrong financial year, or issued after the cut-off.

This checks dates, not your income eligibility

Check your certificate

Every verdict shows the DoPT text and the crucial date it used.

Use the financial year printed on your certificate — DV checks the FY, not the print date.
The default crucial date is the exam's application closing date. If your notification or DV call letter fixes a different crucial date, enter it manually.
Cannot determine

Enter the certificate issue date and financial year — the DV crucial date 28-10-2026 falls in financial year 2026-2027, so an EWS certificate must be valid for 2026-2027.

Why this verdictShow

The printed "valid for 1 year from date of issue" line does not govern central recruitment — the financial-year rule does, and an unexpired certificate can still be rejected for the wrong financial year.

Assumption used. Crucial date taken as the MPPSC Scientific Officer 2026 application closing date (source dated 2026-03-16). If your notification or DV call letter fixes a different crucial date, enter it above.

  2. Set the financial year. Choose the financial year your certificate is for, or let the tool suggest it from the issue date and confirm against the certificate.
  3. Pick the exam or crucial date. Select your exam to use its official closing date, or type the crucial date from your notification or DV call letter.
  4. Read the verdict and download the format. See the verdict — valid, wrong financial year, or issued after the cut-off — with the DoPT text behind it, then download the correct Annexure-I format.

Where it applies Validity What decides Source
Central recruitment (DoPT rule, all-India) The financial year of application — dies 31 March regardless of issue date Family income is computed for the financial year prior to the year of application, and the certificate is valid for the financial year of application. A certificate issued after the crucial date and for a later FY is a major discrepancy; a certificate missing both the financial year and the validity year may invite rejection. The printed "valid for 1 year from date of issue" line does not govern central recruitment — the financial-year rule does, and an unexpired certificate can still be rejected for the wrong financial year. SSC exams The notification's financial year SSC applies the DoPT rule by name: for CGL 2026 the certificate must be valid for FY 2026-2027, issued on the basis of income for FY 2025-2026. The crucial date is the application closing date unless the notice fixes otherwise; individual DV notices can fix a different crucial date. RRB / Railways The notification's financial year The EWS Income & Asset certificate must be based on Income & Assets for the financial year prior to the notification (FY 2024-25 for CEN 09/2025) and possessed as on the closing date — otherwise the reservation claim is rejected and the candidate is considered as UR. MCC NEET counselling (AIQ) Income year fixed by the counselling bulletin For NEET-PG 2025 counselling, the family income/status must be based on the financial year ending 31 March 2025. Common questions

EWS certificate valid for how many years?

One financial year — and which financial year matters more than how many. Under the DoPT rule (OM 36039/1/2019, Para 4.1), family income is counted for the financial year before the year you apply, and the certificate is valid for the financial year of application. It expires on 31 March whatever its issue date: a certificate issued in February is valid only until that 31 March, weeks later. The DoPT FAQ's governing example: closing date 1 August 2022 → income counted for FY 2021-22 → certificate valid for FY 2022-23.

My EWS certificate says 'valid for 1 year from date of issue' — is that the rule?

No. For central recruitment, the '1 year from date of issue' line printed by many states is not the rule that matters — the financial-year rule is. Your certificate can be inside its printed one-year period and still be rejected at document verification for being from the wrong financial year. This is the most common EWS rejection confusion, and exactly what this checker sorts out.

Is the EWS certificate valid till 31 March?

Yes — for central recruitment the certificate is valid for its financial year, which ends 31 March, regardless of the issue date printed on it. A certificate issued on 6 February 2021 was valid (for central use) only until 31 March 2021. That is why aspirants reapply every April for exam season.

My EWS certificate expired before document verification — what happens?

What matters is the crucial date, normally the application closing date — the certificate must be valid for the financial year that date falls in, and issued on or before it. The DoPT FAQ makes certificates issued after the crucial date and for a later financial year a 'major discrepancy' that can invite rejection; some DV notices (SSC GD has done this) fix a different crucial date requiring the DV-date financial year. Check your DV call letter and enter its date in the checker.

EWS certificate crucial date SSC — valid or not?

For SSC, the crucial date is the application closing date unless the notice says otherwise, and SSC's own notice spells out the DoPT rule: for CGL 2026 the certificate must be valid for FY 2026-2027, issued on the basis of income for FY 2025-2026. Pick your SSC exam in the checker (or enter the closing date manually) and it applies exactly this test.

EWS certificate renewal kab kare?

Har financial year — April se. A certificate for FY N (based on FY N-1 income) can only exist from about 1 April of FY N, so the practical rule is: renew every April if you will apply to any exam that year, and make sure the new certificate states the correct financial year. A missing financial year AND validity year on the certificate is itself a major discrepancy per the DoPT FAQ.

Which year's income does the EWS certificate use — the issue year?

No — and this trips up the most people. The income is for the financial year BEFORE the year of application, while the certificate is valid FOR the year of application. So a certificate for FY 2026-27 must be issued on the basis of FY 2025-26 income. A certificate showing the wrong income year, or missing the financial year entirely, is a major discrepancy at document verification.

No. SarkariDoc is not an official government website. This checker follows the DoPT financial-year rule so you can check your own dates before document verification. Always confirm the crucial date and certificate requirement in your official notification and DV call letter.
