How it works
Ink your thumb on a stamp pad
Press your thumb evenly on a stamp pad, or spread a thin layer of ink on it — no thick blobs. The official RBI Assistant scanning guideline reads: "The applicant has to put his left thumb impression on a white paper with black or blue ink." IBPS and DSSSB use the same black-or-blue wording.
Press once on plain white paper
Put an unlined white sheet on a hard, flat surface and press the thumb down once, firmly. Do not roll or slide it — that is what turns the ridges into a grey smear.
Let the print dry
Move the paper while the ink is wet and the print smudges. NTA rejects unclear impressions and DSSSB asks for every ridge to stay clear, so give it a minute.
Scan or photograph it in good light
Scan the sheet, or photograph it lying flat in daylight with no shadow falling across the paper, so the ridges stay readable.
Crop to a square
Upload the image and crop it to a square so the impression fills the frame without stray paper edges.
Choose your exam preset
The default is a 240 x 240 px square kept under 50 KB. Choose IBPS RRB, IBPS Clerk, IBPS SO, SBI PO, SBI Clerk or DSSSB instead and that notification's own dimensions and KB range load, minimum included.
Check and download
Wait until the file sits inside every limit, then download the JPG and upload it on your application form.
Questions
What is a left thumb impression?
A left thumb impression is the inked print of your left thumb, taken on plain white paper and uploaded as a JPG alongside your photo and signature. Banking recruitments such as IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, IBPS RRB, IBPS SO, SBI PO, SBI Clerk and RBI Assistant all ask for one; forms often shorten it to LTI.
What makes a thumb impression get rejected?
Four things our exam sources actually name: a smudged or unclear print (NTA rejects unclear impressions, and DSSSB asks for every ridge to stay clear and unsmudged), a file outside the size range (IBPS and SBI check the 20 KiB minimum as strictly as the 50 KiB cap), wrong dimensions, and the wrong file type — the banking scanning guidelines take JPG/JPEG only. One more that catches people out: RRB lists a thumb impression uploaded in place of a signature as a rejection ground for CEN 06/2025 and CEN 07/2025.
Left thumb or right thumb — which one do exams want?
Check your own form, because exams differ. IBPS, SBI and RBI Assistant ask for the left thumb, and IBPS Annexure III sets a fallback order when the left thumb is unavailable: right thumb, then the other left-hand fingers starting at the forefinger, then the right-hand fingers, then the left toe, noting which one you used. DSSSB is different again — it wants a left thumb and a right thumb as two separate uploads — and NEET UG wants both hands' fingers and thumbs together in one image. SarkariDoc is not a government website, so the notification you are applying under decides.
Left thumb impression size for IBPS
IBPS and SBI notifications ask for a square left thumb impression JPG/JPEG, 240 x 240 pixels preferred, 20-50 KiB — and both the minimum and the maximum are checked. See the IBPS RRB, IBPS Clerk, IBPS PO, SBI Clerk or SBI PO left thumb impression size pages for the official limits.
Can I create a left thumb impression online?
No. This page does not generate a fingerprint for you. You ink your real left thumb on plain white paper, scan or photograph that sheet, then upload it here — the tool only crops and resizes that scan to the pixel and KB size your form asks for.
Is my thumb impression uploaded to a server?
No. Your thumb impression stays in the browser on this page. Nothing is uploaded.

Every row is read from that exam's own official notification or scanning guideline through its SarkariDoc exam page, and the Verified column shows when we last checked it. The IBPS and SBI documents state 240 x 240 pixels at 200 DPI (3 cm x 3 cm) in black or blue ink on white paper, and check the 20 KiB minimum as strictly as the 50 KiB cap. SarkariDoc is not a government website — where your notification prints a different number, the notification wins.
